Preparing for the workplace
Local and national employers have been teaming up with Year 11 students from
The Coleshill School as part of the school’s ‘Practice Interview Day’.
The companies including: West Midlands Police, West Atlantic, Daisy Communications, Beats Financial Planning, CIPP, Warwickshire County Council, World Pay, Mercury, Julie English Interiors, Anthony Hatch, Taylor Root, Maersk, West Midlands Ambulance Service, Father Hudsons Society conducted the interviews which students had prepared for by completing formal application forms.
The 20 minute interviews were conducted just like ‘the real thing’ with structured questions about themselves including their predicted grades, outside interests and work experience.
For most of the students it was their first interview and a really important and valuable learning experience for them. Feedback from the potential employers was really positive, including:
- “A good strong interview, made good conversation and asked relevant questions”
- “Very smart young lady with a very confident attitude, very employable”
- “Excellent application form and interview – would offer an apprenticeship to this young man”
Eileen Bishop, Careers Lead and Natasha Blunt, Associate Assistant Headteacher, commented “We are truly committed to equipping our students with the skills they will need to ensure a bright future awaits them. Our students really benefit from taking part in the interviews, especially with such a crucial life changing time ahead. They took feedback and considered this to support them with their future endeavours. We would like to thank all the companies and their representatives for taking part and we look forward to welcoming them back to school in the future.”
