Coleshill Food Pantry Opens February 2023

There is so much unseen food poverty in Coleshill, so many children and families are in food crisis now and face many meals with empty plates or parents are going hungry to feed their children.

So how do we even begin to meet this challenge. Coleshill Food Pantry was organically birthed from a collaboration between Coleshill United Church and Warwickshire Police to meet this need. We are now getting ready to serve our community.

So what is a Food Pantry?

Food pantry’s all over the country have shown to assist communities to grow and thrive again, strengthening support links, improving children’s/family wellbeing and fostering good relationships.

There is so much unseen poverty in Coleshill, especially with the cost of living rising, so many families are going to bed hungry, without us knowing.

Pantrys aren’t an emergency catch net for those in crisis, this is the role of a food bank. Our role is to empower those who are challenged financially to access a sustainable way of coping when they are in food insecurity or through the difficulty of feeding themselves or their family.

How does it work

Food pantry

You become a member of the pantry, which then supports you and others in our community to access this valuable resource. Each week when you come, you make a donation of £5 and this enables you to receive a top up of about £15 worth of shopping which you choose from our shelves. A bit like a mini shopping experience. At present we are only able to offer non-perishables, but we do have plans for the future to be able to offer other food types too.

We have already received generous support from individuals and local companies to enable us to start this project and envisage this to be an ongoing service for families.

To enable our community to loosen the grip of unseen poverty and to continue to support each other through these challenging times, everything we do to support each other is invaluable.

Coleshill food pantry will run every Tuesday at Coleshill United Church 11-12.30, but our aim is also to be of support to those families in crisis at any time.

If you can donate food, funds or time to volunteer, we would love you to get in touch
