“English wines?!” we hear you say.

Yes, and Warwickshire produces some great still and sparkling. Come with us and discover them for yourself at Blabers Hall Wine Estate.

November 2022 – English wines?!” Yes! Although the majority of us have hardly heard of them or are quite sceptical about their quality, as wine isn’t necessarily what you would associate with England right? Even though, the food and drinks made in Great Britain are certainly on the rise in terms of popularity with consumers supporting local businesses, wines from England still have quite a way to go in terms of establishing themselves.

There’s some great local news for wine lovers though. Blabers Hall Wine Estate located in Fillongley, 4.6 miles from Coleshill and 11 miles from Castle Bromwich is a family-owned wine estate, run by wife and husband Adele and Clarke, who have since 2016 planted 7.5 acres of vines on their land and have in the last few years produced some delicious still and sparkling wines.

Late October 2022, Blabers Hall Wine Estate battled it out with 6 wines against well-established Surrey wines in a blind-tasting “Taste Match” organised by the High Sheriffs of, respectively, Surrey and Warwickshire. Both Sheriffs organised this event to raise money for Crimebeat, a charity empowering young people in Warwickshire to make a stand against crime.

Blabers Hall demonstrated by winning 4 out of the 6 blind wine tastings against Surrey producers, that regions other than the South-East can produce quality wines and, in this instance, proved that Warwickshire has got what it takes when it comes to producing quality wines.

The Warwickshire vs Surrey “Taste Match” return challenge will take place on 10th February 2023 at Warwick Castle and tickets are already selling fast on www.eventbrite.co.uk/d/united-kingdom–leicester/warwick-castle/

Now with Christmas and New Year’s Eve looming, wouldn’t it be fabulous to have local produce on the dinner table or to simply celebrate in style with your loved ones?

Highlight on two Taste Match Blabers Hall Wine Estate winning wines

Hemlingford Sparkling White, this expressive wine represents everything an English wine should have. Elegance with its bubbles together with a well-balanced acidity coupling notes of elderflower and citrus fruits. This is the ideal sparkling wine to welcome your friends and family and start the festivities, alternatively this could also be a delectable wine for your festive desserts such as a Christmas Pudding.

Hemlingford White, this is a refreshing wine with notes of zingy citrus fruits such as grapefruit with a lingering taste of elderflower. This is yet again an ideal wine for an aperitive, with the traditional Christmas turkey or to accompany fish and seafood dishes on your celebration table.
