Water Orton Cricket Club & Tennis Club join forces in aid of Prostate Cancer UK
The group consisting of Pete Coles, Chris Coles, Vic Banner, Roy Russon & Paul Messenger got together to help raise much needed funds for Prostate Cancer.
Both Clubs got together to organize a Casino Night and a Ladies night, which were held at the Water Orton Cricket Club on Coleshill Road, to raise money for leading men’s health charity, Prostate Cancer UK, and to help raise awareness of the disease that kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK.
The Group helped organize the events and raised over £2’505 by Selling entry tickets and raffle tickets for the Casino Night and the Ladies Night.
The group decided to get involved in raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK, after discovering just how many men are affected by the disease, which is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK. Not only did the group smash their fundraising target, but they also helped to raise much needed awareness of the disease in their local community.
The group said, “We are delighted that we raised such a large amount of money by organising the events to help support Prostate Cancer UK and raise much needed awareness of the disease.”
Paul Messenger said “We would like to thank everyone who attended both special evenings, it was fantastic to see both events so well supported. The other team members who helped put all the effort into organising both evenings, deserve a special mention, so a big Well Done to Chris Coles, Pete Coles, Vic Banner, and Roy Russon.
The support received from local shops and businesses in providing the fabulous donation of raffle prizes was fantastic and we were so thankful to all the following: Tesco Express, The Village Cantonese, Water Orton Fish Bar, Lexies, Lavish Look, Bucklands End Carpets, Morissons in Coleshill, The Dog Inn and The Digby Hotel. Thank you everyone it was brilliant to get such great support and so very much appreciated”.
Nicola Tallett, Acting Chief Executive and Director of Fundraising & Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK said: “Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in men in the UK and the Covid-19 pandemic has made living with a diagnosis only harder. Thankfully, the support of Pete Coles, Chris Coles, Vic Banner, Roy Russon, and Paul Messenger and so many other wonderfully generous people have allowed us to continue funding research into better tests and treatments, to stop prostate cancer being a killer.
“Hard times show what people stand for. When the future is uncertain and the choices are tough, we stand for men with prostate cancer. We thank Water Orton Cricket Club and the Water Orton Tennis Club for going that extra mile.”
