Local Runners Rise to the Challenge to Raise Much Needed Funds for Maggie’s Nottingham
When Maggie’s Nottingham asked people to run or walk 50 miles in January to meet their own new year fitness goals as well as raise much-needed funds for their centre, local supporters Cheryl Keye, Di Brotherston, Erasmia Panayiotou and Tamsin Hunt were quick to rise to the challenge.
The foursome collectively ran over 230 miles (taking on routes around Water Orton, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas) and raised an incredible £930 to help fund Maggie’s Nottingham’s support of those living with cancer and their families.
Talking about the challenge Cheryl said:
‘We all love the work that Maggie’s charity does in helping people with cancer. We have all been affected by, or know someone who has been affected, by cancer and we would all like to raise more awareness of this fantastic charity.
Every one of us loved the Maggie’s Run 50 experience. Whilst it wasn’t easy – we are all working moms so fitting in runs around work and school runs was pretty challenging however we all really felt that it was a great experience and a fabulous kick start to the year and we have decided we’ll be making it an annual event! January is usually a pretty gloomy month with not much going on so to set ourselves a physical challenge and raise money for a great cause at the same time felt like a fantastic achievement.’
Annie Walton, Centre Head at Maggie’s Nottingham said:
“We are so thankful to Cheryl, Di, Era and Tamsin for raising funds to help people with cancer and their family and friends in Nottingham. People with cancer need our support now more than ever and this donation will help us continue to provide free practical and psychological support in the centre, online and over the phone.”
Since Maggie’s opened its first centre in 1996, the charity has developed a programme of support that is proven to help people with cancer, as well as family and friends, take back control.
Maggie’s professional staff include psychologists, cancer support specialists and benefits advisors.
Throughout the pandemic Maggie’s has been there for people by phone, email and online, as well offering face to face appointments in our centres when possible.
Maggie’s centres are open. This support runs alongside our ongoing phone, email and digital support.
