High Meadow Community School Celebrates Opening of ‘The Burrow’
On Thursday 7th October we were thrilled to welcome our local Member of Parliament Craig Tracey to officially open our new Key Stage Two classrooms which we have named The Burrow.
The Burrow was finally handed over to the school in July this year after after a 12 month build. This exciting and innovative building was designed with the children at the heart of everything. It is spacious and light with floor to ceiling windows in every classroom, up-to-date interactive whiteboards, inspirational quotes adoring the walls and a wonderful new Book Nook to house all of the books kindly donated by parents and the local community. The eco credentials are pretty impressive too with a live, turf roof and recirculating air systems. The floor to ceiling windows at the back of the building allow the children to have a permanent view of the meadow and the further horizon so they can experience the changing seasons and nature as they spend time in their classes.
As well as officially opening The Burrow, Craig Tracey’s morning was filled with meeting the Head Students, planting a tree in the school’s fruit meadow, visiting classes throughout the whole school and spending time with Mrs Hughes (the Headteacher) and Mrs Garbett (the Deputy Headteacher). They shared the school’s vision for the future with more exciting plans for the natural meadow, the vegetable planters and the high aspirations for all High Meadow students. Mr Tracey was very kind in offering to organise a visit to Parliament in London for the children of which plans are already afoot.
Mrs Hughes, the school Headteacher said “ We are so proud of our school and students and we were thrilled to welcome Mr Tracey to our wonderful community. The children really enjoyed sharing their love of The Burrow and all of the exciting opportunities that High Meadow offers them. Lockdown has been tough on everyone but with The Burrow now open and everyone back in school, it was a real joy opening our doors to Mr Tracey this month”
