Coleshill charity calls on people to get out, get together and back its new appeal

Coleshill charity Father Hudson’s Care is calling on people to take advantage of lockdown easing to get out in support of its new Walk a Mile appeal and help raise funds for people in need locally and across the West Midlands.

The appeal will see supporters challenge themselves to get out walking, running, cycling or skating while raising funds for Father Hudson’s work with vulnerable people. Normally reserved as a fundraising campaign for senior schools, the Walk a Mile appeal is being opened up this year to anyone that wants to get involved. And Father Hudson’s Care is urging you to join in. All proceeds raised will enable the charity to continue its work supporting people who are marginalized, excluded or experiencing difficulties.

One prominent local business is amongst those that have chosen to back the appeal. Staff from the Coleshill branch of construction firm, Wilmott Dixon, have pledged their support by getting together as a team to take on the challenge.

The firm has chosen to support St Joseph’s Care Home, which is part of Father Hudson’s Care, as their charity of the year. As well as joining the Walk a Mile challenge, staff from the firm have offered to build a summer house for residents to enjoy with their loved ones. St Joseph’s manager, Shelley Perryman, said, “We’re really looking forward to this. It will be a beautiful area for our residents to spend their time and relax. We’re very grateful for Wilmott Dixon’s support.”

The Walk a Mile appeal launched on 1 May and will run to October. So why not make the most of the summer and get out and about in aid of a local good cause?

It’s easy to get involved. Sign up at www.fatherhudsons.org.uk, set yourself a distance to complete and ask family and friends to sponsor you or make a donation to the charity. The distance you walk is up to you, and can be as much or as little as you can manage. Why not get together in a team and complete a marathon between you? If you want a bigger challenge, you can also run, cycle or roller skate. The appeal is about getting together with loved ones, making the most of the summer months, having fun, and raising funds for a local charity at the same time.

Money raised through Walk a Mile the appeal will enable Father Hudson’s Care to continue its work with people in Coleshill and further afield.

The charity, which has been based in the town since 1902, works with people who are experiencing need or facing adversities. This includes supporting homeless people to make a fresh start, providing food and essential items to people who are destitute, supporting families to overcome difficulties, working with looked-after and at-risk children and young people, and providing care for older people and adults with a range of physical and learning disabilities.
