Birmingham Dogs Home Collection Bins

As key workers, Birmingham Dogs Home’s canine carers and rehoming teams have continued to work behind locked gates every single day throughout 2020 and into 2021’s New Year lockdown too.

For the dogs and dedicated staff looking after them it was business as usual, whatever crisis was happening in the wider world, as every dog they receive still needs daily care, including medical treatment, food, exercise, training and lots of TLC.

Birmingham Dogs Home receives around 2,000 stray and abandoned dogs from nine local authorities across the Midlands each year. The reasons for dogs being abandoned and relinquished is always complex and the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated these difficult situations as owners have struggled with ill health or financial difficulties.

For one of the region’s oldest and best loved charity’s, the pandemic has meant that Birmingham Dogs Home had to close its doors to visitors at its Birmingham and Wolverhampton centres. This has had a huge impact on rehoming as all adoptions are on hold and with costs increasing as dogs are looked after by the charity for longer.

BDH collection bins are located at a number of local stores, where supporters can drop off food, treats and toys, all of which are very welcome to ensure the charity is able to continue caring for every dog that needs their help during these challenging times.

“Last year was a “ruff year” for us but we are very grateful to all of our supporters that continue to remember our dogs and to the stores that help to collect items we need and to all of the team at The Coleshill Post for all of their support over the years”. Areika Bickerton, Centre Manager, Birmingham Dogs Home. Donations can also be made via Birmingham Dogs Home’s website: www.birminghamdogshome.org.uk
